Peterborough Community Website -
www.peterborough.net - now in its eighth
year of promoting Peterborough online has seen
steady visitor levels over the last few
years.
January
2006 saw the
website, which is operated by Peterborough-based InternetNow!
break all visitor records,
with a massive 58,173 visitors for the month,
who looked at a staggering 630,140 pages!
It seems very
relevant that this news follows closely on the heels of an article
in the local business press, declaring recent research showed
'community forums are the way forward.'
Community Site content manager,
Jenny Mogford said: "We're delighted with the figures
and are also pleased to see that the business community is now
recognising the benefits of creating and using online communities."
The site is quite unique generating
a local online community of regular visitors, without the support of
any other more traditional media. It includes
contributions from local businesses and people via published
articles and an interactive forum area. In May 2005 the site also
had its news articles listed by Google News alongside worldwide news
outlets, including Reuters, Bloomberg and the BBC.
Local businesses, both large and
small have found the website to be a successful and cost
effective way of promoting their products/services via banner
advertising, which in turn generates an income to support the
site.
"These visitor figures are
really quite exceptional for an
independent Community website of this type." Jenny continued.
"We're
confident that as we continue to create a sense
of community and belonging for businesses and individuals,
our success will also continue."
