New young people’s service launched

News | Community

Peterborough City Council’s Connexions and youth service have merged to form a new young people’s service.

The new service brings together advice, guidance and support for young people across Peterborough and is headed up by former interim head of Connexions and head of youth service Rachel Rouncefield.

The merger signifies a new way of working with multi-disciplinary teams based in the community and in the city centre in a ‘one-stop-shop access point.’

Councillor Matthew Dalton, spokesman for young people, said: “The new young people’s service will enable us to work in a more joined-up way, and meet the needs of young people more effectively. It will provide support to young people aged 13 to 19 in a number of ways.

“It will provide careers and education advice; undertake community cohesion work; offer personal development opportunities; help young people into work or training; give young people a voice; and help them make a positive contribution to their communities.”

Rachel Rouncefield added: “The new service is just one part of the council’s Change for Children Programme which looks at how the city council delivers services to all children and young people. The aim is to make services more effective by integrating front-line delivery, delivering services at a more local level and joining up processes to reduce duplication.”
