On Saturday 29 December, a refuse and recycling vehicle will collect
household waste and card, plastic bottles and other recyclable
materials from the Orton Centre car park in Orton Goldhay,
Peterborough, between 8 am and 9.30 am.
The vehicles will then visit the
Copeland Centre in Bretton, Peterborough, between 10 am and 11.30
am; Hampton Court in Ravensthorpe, Peterborough, from 12 noon to
1.30 pm; and the Pyramid Centre car park in North Bretton,
Peterborough, from 2 pm to 3.30 pm.
They will also make collections on
Saturday 5 January 2008 from the car park in Lawson Avenue car park,
Stanground, Peterborough, from 8 am to 9.30 am; Park Lane car park
in Eastfield, Peterborough, from 10 am to 11.30 am; Christ Church
car park, Dogsthorpe, Peterborough, from 12 noon to 1.30 pm; and the
Rainbow Centre, Werrington, Peterborough, from 2 pm to 3.30pm.
Householders are also reminded that
refuse and recycling dates over the festive period will change for
most households. Residents who would have had a service on Monday 24
December will instead have their bins collected two days earlier on
Saturday 22 December, while those who would have normally had their
bins collected on Tuesday 25 December will instead have a service on
Monday 24 December. The remaining collections during Christmas week
will be collected a day later than usual.
Collections on Monday 31 December
will remain unchanged, while collections for the rest of the week
will be picked-up a day later than usual. This will culminate with
collections which would have normally taken place on Friday 4
January 2008 being collected on Saturday 5 January 2008.
In addition, residents are reminded
that brown bin collections will be suspended from Friday 21 December
until Monday 21 January 2008.
Councillor David Sanders, Cabinet
member for City Services at Peterborough City Council, said: “Three
million tonnes of extra waste is produced over the Christmas
holidays, which can end up at landfill sites. We want to encourage
people to recycle as much of this waste as possible and also give
them additional places they can dispose of it and other household
rubbish.
“Most of the extra waste created
during the festive period can be recycled and, while residents in
Peterborough are some of the greenest in the UK, it’s important we
continue to do our bit for the environment this Christmas.”
Card, paper, television guides,
newspapers, plastic bottles, aluminium and tin cans, as well as
juice and milk cartons, can be deposited in green bins for
recycling. Glass bottles and jars should be taken to the nearest
bottle bank of which there are more than 30 across the city.
