Bob Digby, an education specialist with 15 years experience, has
been appointed project manager of the universities@Peterborough
programme.
From
Monday 1 August 2011, Bob will join the project team for two days a
week.
Bob has a
very broad employment background, with extensive experience in the
telecommunications industry as well as education. Bob started
teaching in the learning and skills sector 15 years ago on
programmes including HNC Business Studies, 'Set up a Small Business'
and the vocational GCSE in Business Studies as part of the Increased
Flexibility programme for 14 to 16-year-olds.
During the
last eight years, Bob has worked to encourage young people to
progress into higher education and to support the development of
vocational courses for 14 to 19-year-olds.
As the
universities@Peterborough project manager, Bob will be responsible
for leading the city's ambition to create a wider choice of higher
education provision with a larger range of providers who will offer
business-relevant knowledge and skills to support the economic
growth of local companies.
Bob said:
"I am really excited about this new role and believe we can develop
a new model to enable greater local access to higher education. My
message to local businesses is 'grow people - grow profits' and I
hope to help companies have the right people with the right skills
in place to take advantage of any upturn in the economy."
Councillor
John Holdich, Peterborough City Council's cabinet member for
education, skills and university, said: "We are delighted to have
Bob on board with the universities@Peterborough project as he has
some fantastic experience to bring to the role. Bob has worked
closely with a number of higher education institutions and also has
great experience in the business world, which is key to making this
role a success. We look forward to working with him."
