The Big Debate

News | Community

Would you like to give your views on how the economic downturn has affected Peterborough?

Do you have an opinion about the impact it has had on vulnerable children and adults that you know?

Would you like to have your say on how the recession has affected the level of crime in your part of the city?

If your answer is ‘yes’ to any of these questions then Peterborough City Council would like to encourage you to get involved in a series of innovative events which it is calling “The Big Debate”.

The events will be held over a series of evenings during February at various locations across Peterborough.

  • The Environment Capital Scrutiny Committee will be meeting on Tuesday 2 February at 5.30pm at Buckles Solicitors to look at future transport options for the city.

  • The Creating Opportunities and Tackling Inequalities Scrutiny Committee will be meeting on Thursday 4 February at 5.30pm at Peterborough College of Adult Education to look at how vulnerable adults and children are being supported.

  • The Strong and Supportive Communities Scrutiny Committee will be meeting on Tuesday 16 February at 5pm at the Key Theatre to look at the amount and type of crime in Peterborough.

  • The Sustainable Growth Scrutiny Committee will be meeting on Wednesday 17 February at 5.30pm at the Town Hall to look at how the city can continue to grow and overcome the effects of the economic downturn.

Councillor Marion Todd, chair of the strong and supportive communities scrutiny committee, said: "Normally scrutiny meetings are in the Town Hall but this series of events is more about us coming out to the public to make it easier for everyone to get involved in a debate about our city and its future.

“We are looking for a real cross-section of people to get involved, those who work or are interested in the environmental sector, parents, representatives for voluntary and community organisations, people of all ages and from all walks of life who live in our diverse city. If you are interested in getting involved please get in touch to find out more."

To book a place or to find out more call the scrutiny team on (01733) 747474

If you cannot attend but would still like to be involved you can send your written submissions to Scrutiny Team, Democratic Services, Town Hall, Bridge Street, Peterborough, PE1 1HG or email scrutiny@peterborough.gov.uk by Friday 29 January 2010.

Further details on each of these events can be found in the meetings section of the Peterborough City Council website www.peterborough.gov.uk. From the home page click on ‘council and democracy’, then ‘democracy’ and you will then find a link to the calendar of meetings. Agendas will be published five working days before the meeting date.
