In a nutshell this means
that employers' childcare vouchers will no longer be available to
new entrants. At a stroke, lower rate taxpayers will lose out on
£962 of tax relief a year, while higher rate taxpayers will lose
£1,195 a year.
Under the plans, this cash will be
retargeted at 250,000 two-year-olds in families on "low and modest
incomes", who, in five years, will get 10 hours of free childcare a
week.
It seems that the PM thinks that
those who earn above £40K cannot described themselves as "squeezed".
Stewart commented: “As usual, in the
Prime Minister’s attempt to pull a rabbit out of the hat he has
shown his true colours.
“Brown genuinely seems to believe
that a teacher earning £40k a year is well off and requires no
support.
“He can’t help himself from
clobbering the middle classes at every turn”.
