Schools across the country
received their “final” 2009-10 funding allocation for sixth-forms on
2nd March this year, only to have it significantly reduced on 27th
March due to a “miscalculation”. This left many schools in a difficult
position having made commitments that they could no longer fund.
Schools in Peterborough have been short-changed by nearly £400,000 due
to the financial mismanagement. Speaking after the debate,
Stewart said: “This is a hugely important issue which affects
our children’s education. “The level of Government
incompetence demonstrated by this is unbelievable. We must ensure that
mistakes made this year are not repeated in the future. “We
need to get this matter sorted out as quickly as possible; otherwise
this funding fiasco could have a major impact on teaching.”
