The move is unprecedented and comes in the form of a letter sent to
Conservative Chief Whip in the House of Commons, Rt Hon Patrick
McLouglin MP dated 19th December 2006 and pits the elected Member of
Parliament against an unelected public official.
Stewart Jackson said: “Mrs Spence is
clearly unhappy about receiving any criticism and is obviously a
little over sensitive.
“Where the force is doing well, it
wins my strong backing but reported crime in Peterborough is very
nearly twice the level for the rest of Cambridgeshire and at the
same time the number of full time police officers in our area has
been cut. I therefore have a right to speak out and demand a better
service on behalf of local people.
“I believe that she has broken
established protocol by seeking to curtail the right of an elected
local MP to speak up on behalf of his constituents. As the son and
brother of police officers, I am aiming fire at the
politically-correct bosses and not the dedicated bobby on the beat.
“I have advised Mrs Spence by letter
that any future conduct of this sort will result in a formal
complaint to Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary."
Stewart
Jackson was elected in May 2005 to represent the
Peterborough constituency in the House of Commons.
