News | Community

Residents in Eye and Thorney, Newborough and East wards are being urged to make sure they know where their polling station will be for the local and national elections in light of changes in electoral boundaries.

The city council Eye and Thorney ward, which was formerly in the North East Cambridgeshire constituency, and the city council Newborough ward, which was formerly split between North East Cambridgeshire and North West Cambridgeshire constituencies, are now part of the Peterborough Borough constituency.

The city council East ward, which was formerly divided between North East Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Borough constituencies, is now wholly part of the Peterborough Borough constituency.

As a result of the boundary changes, some electors will need to cast their vote at a different polling station to the one they have used previously.

Poll cards are being sent to all electors identifying their local polling station or confirming postal vote arrangements. People can also find details by visiting www.peterborough.gov.uk and clicking on 'council and democracy', followed by 'elections' and 'find your polling station'. They will then be asked to type in their postcode to reveal their polling station.

One third of the 57 seats on the city council are up for re-election covering 19 wards in the city. The two parliamentary seats for the North West Cambridgeshire and Peterborough constituencies are also due to be contested.

The deadline to submit new applications to vote or to apply, amend or cancel postal votes is 5pm on Tuesday 20 April 2010. Applications to vote by proxy on grounds of physical incapacity must be submitted by 5pm on Tuesday 27 April 2010. Where the physical incapacity occurred after 5pm on 27 April 2010 emergency applications must reach the electoral registration officer at the Town Hall, Bridge Street, Peterborough, by 5pm on Thursday 6 May 2010.
