Two men impersonating police officers called at the home of an elderly
couple. The men said they had made an arrest in the area and wanted
the couple to check their cash and valuables. They showed the
victims a false identity card with 'police' written on it.
One of the men entered the bedroom
and searched a desk but left empty handed.
Both men were aged between 41 and 60
and white. One wore a white jumper and jeans, with splashes of paint
on the lower half. The other had a zip-up navy jacket and dark
trousers. They both had Irish accents.
Another resident's home was visited
by two men stating they were police officers. The 68-year-old man
refused to let them in but they pushed their way past. About a
minute later they left the property and nothing was stolen.
The third happened in Figtree Walk
between 3pm and 4pm on Tuesday (October 27) when a man introduced
himself to an 86-year-old resident as a police officer, showing a
card which had no picture or police wording on it. He walked around
her house and left after 10 minutes, getting into a small silver
car. The following day the victim went to get money from her purse
but discovered it had been taken.
The man was described as white, 30
to 40 and 5'10". He had a large build with a large stomach and spoke
with an English accent. He had dark, combed back hair, a dark
leather jacket and dark trousers.
DC Tamsin Gallie, who is
investigating, said: "All victims will be receiving crime prevention
tools and advice, as well as a visit from the Bobby Scheme to check
their home security.
"It is an extremely sad situation
when offenders prey on people who, because of their age or health
issues, are vulnerable.
"If anyone is not happy about
someone entering their home they should call the police immediately.
If someone is unsure about the identity of someone claiming to be a
police officer, they can call the police service centre to check
they are a genuine officer."
Anyone with information is asked to
contact DC Gallie at Thorpe Wood Police Station on 0345 456 456 4 or
Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
