Members of the city council’s Travelchoice team will mount an
exhibition at the Asda supermarket in Rivergate, Peterborough,
between 11.30 am and 2.30 pm on Tuesday to explain how easy it is to
find a car-share partner by using the
www.travelchoice.org.uk
website.
“People who car-share for regular
journeys can save up to £1,000 in fuel and parking costs,” said
Travel Plan Officer Nicola Francis. “They could also enhance the
re-sale value of their cars by reducing mileage and wear and tear,
while helping to reduce pollution and congestion.”
National Liftshare Day – part of
Green Transport Week – is being used to raise funds for Asthma UK,
which is researching the links between traffic fumes and asthma.
“People can make on-line donations of the money they save from
car-sharing through the
www.liftshare.com website,” said
Nicola.
The city council’s car-share scheme
is free to enter and can be used to identify car-sharers for
journeys to work or other destinations. The website allows
individuals to stipulate the type of person with whom they wish to
car-share and protects the identities of individuals until
arrangements are agreed. Hints on car-share etiquette and safeguards
are also provided.
One car sharer said: “It’s great. It
saves money, reduces congestion and the companionship makes it a
much more enjoyable journey.”
