Information is being given to new residents on alternative travel
options to using the car. The Passport to Travel contains key
contacts and useful information on footpaths, cycle routes, services
such as adult cycle training, Good Going discounts, community
transport, public transport and car sharing.
Councillor
Matthew Lee, deputy leader of Peterborough City Council and cabinet
member for environment capital and culture, said: "Targeting
newcomers to Peterborough is a good way for us to tell people about
Peterborough's aspiration to be the UK's environment capital and how
they can contribute to this.
"As new
residents they have a chance to make a difference to their local
environment, improve their health and make real cost savings by
considering alternative forms of travel to the car."
James
Harrison, Peterborough City Council's travel information officer,
added: "We are continually looking for ways to provide information
to the public on transport alternatives in Peterborough.
"We hope
to expand the list of estate agents we are working with so that we
can reach as many newcomers to Peterborough as possible."
New
residents who have received the booklet have praised its usefulness.
One resident said: “As a new resident I am impressed by this service
and have mentioned it several times to friends outside of the area
as an indicator of a city that cares.”
Another
resident said: “Excellent service - appreciated as a new resident.”
