A complete revision of collection rounds
means waste and recycling teams will focus on adjacent
neighbourhoods each day rather than moving between districts –
saving diesel fuel and reducing carbon emissions.
Mike
Heath, the city council’s commercial services director, said: “Over
recent years we have extended collection rounds as necessary to cope
with the city’s growth. The switch to a four-day collection rota
allows us to conduct a comprehensive review so that, wherever
possible, each day’s collections concentrate on specific areas. We
anticipate this will save fuel and reduce carbon emissions.”
Individual
letters notifying all households of their new collection days plus
information about changes over the Christmas and New Year weeks will
be despatched shortly. The letters will also contain helpful advice
about what should be recycled in green bins.

there will be no collections of ‘brown bin’ organic garden materials
after Friday 18 December until they re-commence on Tuesday 19
January 2010.
