Jane Day, senior consumer adviser in Peterborough City Council’s
trading standards team, said: “We have been advised that there is an
email being distributed advising recipients that they have won a lot
of money in a lottery promotion. The email claims that the draw is
approved by the British Gaming Board and requests that recipients
provide certain information.
“Our advice is that people should
never respond to these types of emails. People who have not bought a
lottery ticket cannot have won.
“People should never give their bank
details to a stranger as they could find their account has been
emptied. Always be wary before giving any bank or credit card
details and never give these unless you are going to purchase the
item from a known source.
“Always remember that if an offer
seems too good to be true then it usually is.”
