By proposing an order (under the Criminal Justice and Police Act
2001) people who continue to drink in an area when asked not to by a
police officer may be arrested and fined £500 if convicted. The
order also means police can arrest anyone who refuses to surrender
alcohol when asked to do so.
An order
will not prevent people from drinking in designated spaces outside
licensed premises such as beer gardens or in their own gardens.
The
proposed areas for the introduction of designated public place
orders are:
-
Part
of Millfield and New England
-
Part
of Dogsthorpe
-
Eastfield Road
-
Pyramid Centre, Bretton
-
Holywell Lakes, Longthorpe
-
Church
Drive shops, Orton Longueville
The city
council will be considering the views of local people when making
the decision to create designated zones.
People
will be able to view the exact boundary of the proposed designated
areas, including the list of streets and a map at the city council's
Bayard Place reception on Broadway and at the Town Hall reception
from Tuesday 21 September 2010.
Leaflets
illustrating the location of the proposed designated zones will be
distributed to all residents within those communities concerned.
People who
would like their views noted can write to: SaferPeterborough
