The game, which has been distributed to all 78 schools in
Peterborough, has attracted interest from other local authorities.
Examples have also been sent to schools in Spain and Germany. It has
also been transformed into a larger version for outdoor use.
Jenna, who collected the silver
award from actress Alexandra Bastedo, said: "This award is testament
to the creativity of the pupils in the Green Team at Hampton
College. Several ideas were incorporated into the finished product
with the help of one of our in-house designers. It resulted in a
game that is both fun and educational. I am extremely proud to have
been part of the innovative project.
"It is important that our children,
our future generation, learn about the impact of human activity upon
the environment at an early age."
Councillor Matthew Lee, the city
council's deputy leader and cabinet member for environment capital
and culture, said: "This is a fantastic achievement that raises
Peterborough's profile on the national and international scene. I
congratulate all involved for creating such an innovative game."
The Green Apple Awards, now in
their 16th year, are sponsored by the Green Organisation, an
independent group dedicated to rewarding environmental best practice
around the world.
The project is being promoted as
part of the city's wider campaign 'Your Footprint Counts' which aims
to reduce the emissions of carbon dioxide while adding to
Peterborough's growing reputation of being the UK's environment
capital.
