Advance Performance team member and Triathlon Centre co-ordinator, Matt Green, is training for his first Ironman in 2014.
Matt is a seasoned runner and cyclist and now an amateur triathlete. After years of competing in various run races around the UK he decided to set himself a challenge, his very first long distance triathlon.
His triathlon of choice is Ironman Mallorca 70.3 in May 2014. Mallorca is known as a training paradise for cyclists and triathletes alike and the event location, Alcúdia, boasts a tough but scenic course.
For those of you not in the know, the Ironman 70.3 comprises a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and a 13.1 mile run.
Matt finished last year’s Great North Run in a personal best time of 78:29 and he’s no slouch on the bike either. His biggest challenge as with many starting out as triathletes was the swim.
Matt takes up the story, “Many members of my local triathlon club in Stamford completed the race in 2013. After hearing all the positive comments about the race I decided I would sign up.
“Jon Sheehan from Stamford Triathlon Club has been a massive help in getting me to where I am now in the pool. He watched me closely, session after session looking at where I am going wrong. Once I had the technique, then training like a real triathlete began.”
Working for Advance Performance & the Triathlon Centre has meant that Matt had easy access to lots of advice & support with both his training, injury niggles and tips for race day with our in-store expertise and consulting coaches.
Everyone is welcome for tea and advice at both the stores, whether they’re buying or not and there’s lots of free parking & late night opening.
