Young people are being urged to have
their say on a new website which will bring together all information
for them.
The new website will be launched by
Peterborough City Council later this year and will replace existing
young people’s websites such as
www.postiveyouthaction.com and
www.purplepigeon.net
and bring all information for young people in one
easy-to-access location.
It will feature lots of useful
information about youth groups, local activities, education,
careers, housing, health issues, young people’s rights and much
more. The website is being developed as part of the merger of the
city council’s youth service with Connexions to create the new young
people’s service from April.
Councillor Matthew Dalton, spokesman
for young people, said: “This is a real opportunity for young people
to have a say on how best we can tailor part of our service to their
needs and make sure we are providing information in a format that is
most suitable for them.
“Young people can register their
views by filling in a survey on the council’s website
www.peterborough.gov.uk.
If they don’t have a computer at home, they can use those in schools
or local libraries. Copies of the survey have also been sent to all
secondary schools in Peterborough.“
Rachel Rouncefield, head of the new
young people’s service which will be launched in April, said: “We
want to make sure that young people have a website that is
specifically tailored to their needs and includes all the
information they want to access.
“To help us to make sure young
people get the most out of the new website, we want to know what
kind of site they would like to see developed, how they would like
it to look and what they want included on it.”
The closing date for responses is
Friday 30 March and young people filling in the survey can choose to
be entered into a free prize draw to win £30 of vouchers for a store
of their choice in Peterborough.
