They will be taught to enhance their personal and social development
and life skills they will need in adulthood.
Six role models will take part in
question and answer sessions at the boxing events and Peterborough
United captain Russell Martin kicks off session one. The initiative
is accredited by England’s boxing award programme and young people
will be taught a range of boxing skills without entering into combat
with one another.
Peterborough City Council's young
people's service youth worker, Jason Horne, said: "The boxing
programme incorporates boxing training skills with the input of
regular positive role models. We will be able to promote leadership
and teamwork and the boxing will help compliment aspects of self
control and discipline.
"The sessions will also enable us to
educate young people about substance and alcohol misuse and the
consequences of offending behaviour. We are delighted Russell Martin
is our first role model and I would like to thank Arena Boxing Club
for contributing to what will be an exciting and informative
programme for young people."
