Libraries host 'Snowman' book events for children

Lifestyle | Article

Children across the city will be enjoying an extra treat this Christmas when libraries host free 'Snowman' activity events based on the popular book, The Snowman, by Raymond Briggs.

The events, organised by learning network, Explore Learning, take place in 10 city libraries starting at Peterborough City Council's Central Library, Broadway, Peterborough, on 20 December 2008 from 3 pm until 4 pm.

Children from five to eight years can enjoy activities based on the story including talking about the book's illustrations and designing their own snowman.

The events run for approximately one hour and spaces are limited to 10 children. Parents can book places for children by visiting or telephoning their local library.

Gill Benedikz, Peterborough City Council's reading promotion and event co-ordinator at Central Library, said: "The Snowman workshops provide an ideal environment for children to develop their reading skills and have fun at the same time. Parents can join in and it gives them and children the opportunity to discover more about their local library and what it has to offer for the community.”

The Snowman events take place at the following libraries:

Peterborough Central Library: 20 December 2008, 3 pm to 4 pm
Thorney Library: 22 December 2008, 2 pm to 3 pm
