And it’s all for charity.

Lite FM newsreader Simon Potter has compiled a truly magnificent book about our city called ‘Weird and Wonderful Tales of Peterborough’ and every penny of the profits will go to the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice.

In the book you can find out how a UFO sighting by a Peterborough policeman led to the government starting to take an official interest in flying saucers, how the Rainbow supermarkets and Westgate House came about through an alleged breach of the lottery act, how Wansford played a part in the Magna Carta, the link between Peterborough and both Shakespeare and Dickens plus much much more.

Weird and Wonderful Peterborough

‘Weird and Wonderful Tales of Peterborough’ costs £7.99 and is available from W.H.Smiths on Bridge Street plus www.simonpotter.info.

The author will be in W.H.Smiths on Saturday, June 14 (11am to 3pm) to sign copies of the book.

You can also pick up a copy at the Tourist Information Centre, Flag Fen visitor centre, Thorpe Hall and on e-Bay.

Let’s face it, you always wanted to know why Glinton church has a carving of a human backside outside it, which of Peterborough’s MPs has a black belt in Tai Kwon Do and why a former Peterborough MP refused to watch the film ‘Chariots of Fire’, didn’t you?
