How will the Great Eastern Run affect you?

Lifestyle | Article

Residents will had the opportunity to learn more about this year’s Great Eastern Run and how it may affect them at Peterborough Town Hall reception room on 13 August.

Attendees received a presentation on the race, which takes place on Sunday 14 October, and had the opportunity to speak to members of the organising team about any aspect of the event, as well as hearing from Peterborough City Council’s emergency planning officer Stuart Hamilton.

In addition, a representative from a local running club talked about the health benefits involved in running in either the 5km fun run or the half-marathon. They were joined by a representative from Sue Ryder Care at Thorpe Hall, who explained how the race raises thousands of pounds for dozens of good causes and how residents can do their bit for charity.

“This is an excellent opportunity for people to find out more about the race and how it may affect them,” said Kathleen McGrath, from the city council’s organising team. “We want to reassure residents that any disruption will be kept to a minimum and give them the opportunity to ask any questions they may have or to put forward any comments or suggestions about the race.

“In addition, we would like to encourage people to get involved in the race by volunteering to help out on the day. The Great Eastern Run requires dozens of marshals to man the course and if people are taking part in the fun run or the half-marathon it is the ideal opportunity for them to get involved in the greatest road race in the region.”

The Great Eastern Run has grown with the backing of its main sponsor Perkins Engines and others, including Advance Performance, ASICS UK Ltd and Anglian Water. It has also benefited from the enthusiasm of local running clubs, giving the sport the support it deserves as well as helping runners of all abilities.
