Thousands more lined the 13.1-mile route to cheer on those taking
part in what was the largest race of its kind in the eastern region.
This year, race organisers are
hoping to build on the success of the 2006 event and require an army
of volunteers from 7 am in the morning until the race finishes. It
is an excellent opportunity to be part of the greatest race in the
east, receive free race clothing and a community sports leaders
award. However, those wishing to become a marshal must be aged 16
years and over.
Volunteers will be responsible for
manning the route and communicating with runners and the public.
They will be fully briefed and will be working alongside
Cambridgeshire Constabulary and employees from Peterborough City
Council to maintain the safety of everyone involved.
“This is an excellent opportunity to
be involved in one of the biggest sporting events in the region,”
said Tim Quy, area sports officer at Peterborough City Council.
“Volunteers should be available for an early start on the day of the
race and will be provided with all the necessary kit and equipment.”
For further information on how to
become a volunteer, contact Tim Quy on (01733) 747474 or email
tim.quy@peterborough.gov.uk.
