It uses recreated environments, such as a Roman kitchen and Medieval
Cloister, to explore the early history of the Peterborough area from
prehistory to the Middle Ages.
Visitors will be encouraged to
handle reconstructed objects and use interactive displays to bring
the past to life as they view authentic historic objects.
The museum has arranged an exciting
range of addition attractions to appeal to families over half term
break.
Re-enactment group Ludus
Gladiatorius will present displays by Roman soldiers and Gladiators
on Saturday and Sunday (11/12 February). A Roman soldier and
medieval archer will be on-hand to talk to visitors from Monday to
Friday (13 to 17 February). There will also be hands-on craft
activities with an archaeological theme for all the family each
weekday morning and afternoon.
Stuart Orme, museum marketing and
events officer for Peterborough City Council, said: “We’ve been
working very hard to create a new visitor experience at the new-look
gallery and we hope people will enjoy the results.
“We think the gallery and our
half-term activities will really bring the early history of the
Peterborough area to life. We’ll be finalising the gallery changes
in a few weeks, so comments from our early visitors will help
influence any further changes.”
The new gallery and the half-term
activities are open from 10 am to 5 pm Monday to Saturday and from
12 noon to 4 pm on Sundays. Admission is free of charge.
