The exhibition was to promote the much
anticipated annual Chinese dragon boat festival, which takes place
on the River Nene on Sunday 21st June opposite the Key Theatre.
Visitors to the display at
Serpentine Green were able to view the
dragon boat and talk to enthusiastic staff from Gable Events about
any aspect of the Festival including how to become part of this
eagerly awaited event by entering a team. The Festival’s radio
partner, Lite FM, broadcast information about the Festival during
the course of the day and
information was provided about the
Festival’s official charity, Peterborough SportsAid Foundation.
In the few weeks since the Festival
launch, Gable Events has already received a great deal of interest
from potential crews and anticipates that the event will once again
be a huge success. Last year’s Festival attracted the maximum 52
crews plus several thousand spectators from around the region and
more than £10,000 was raised for local charities!
2009 is the eleventh year of the
Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival and this will be the fourth year
that Crighton’s of Peterborough, the city’s Mitsubishi dealer, have
proudly sponsored the event.
Managing Director, Iain Crighton,
who is also Chairman of Peterborough SportsAid Foundation, said: “I
believe business must honour its corporate social responsibilities,
and so we are always keen to be involved in the local community.
"SportsAid
will be the main charity to benefit, and the money will be used for
grants to promising young sportsmen and women in the area who do not
qualify for grants from other sources. Olympic bronze medal gymnast,
Louis Smith, is just one of the local teenagers to have benefitted
from a grant from the Peterborough SportsAid Foundation.”
The Dragon Boat Festival on 21st
June promises a fantastic day for competitors and spectators alike.
As well as the dragon boat racing, crews and visitors to the
Festival will experience a vibrant mix of attractions including
funfair, street entertainers, inflatables, Chinese lion dancing,
food stalls, beer tent and the Lite FM roadshow. Trophies will be
presented to the winning crew, the top mixed crew, the ‘best
dressed’ crew and the crew raising the most money for Peterborough
SportsAid Foundation. The top fundraisers will also receive a
fabulous Pan-Asian meal for the whole crew courtesy of East
Restaurant and Bar.
