Supporting the local people of Bretton and Peterborough are also
high on the group’s agenda as over The Cresset Theatre’s 30 year
existence the venue has been a great resource for many community,
charity and school groups.
Since the announcement of the
closure more than 6,000 individuals have either travelled from as
far afield as Stevenage, Sheffield, Loughborough, Diss and Lincoln
to sign the petition, or joined the Facebook group started by the
group’s chairman Stephen Saunders. Speaking after the first meeting
Stephen commented “The Cresset Theatre is an extremely valuable
asset to the people of Peterborough and surrounding areas. Over the
years the venue has attracted a number of extremely high profile
live acts – who without The Cresset Theatre – would never have come
to the city. Therefore, we have made the decision to form this group
to try and prevent the closure from happening. We aim to achieve
this by trying to speak to the right people and hopefully get the
answers to many unanswered questions.”
