Even now it is still a staple diet of any
70’s disco night – the intro usually provoking an immediate rush of
ladies to the dance floor.
Some 30 years later Candi will
finally come to Peterborough on Tuesday 3rd March at The Cresset
Theatre in Bretton, Peterborough. The event will be all seated
and ticket prices range from £15 to £20.
Candi
also enjoyed hits in the 70’s with songs such as ‘Run to Me’,
‘Nights on Broadway’, ‘Destiny’ and a
cover of the Elvis classic ‘Suspicious minds’. In the 90’s Candi
enjoyed a major club hit with the song ‘Musical Freedom’
However,
in the late 90’s the singer enjoyed a renaissance with a new younger
soul audience when a DJ remix of a Candi’s gospel song was mixed
with Frankie Knuckles ‘house’ classic Your Love and became ‘You’ve
got the Love'
which has enjoyed Top 40 status in the UK on 3 separate occasions
since.
"In my
younger days as a Soul DJ in this area I brought acts such as Rose
Royce, Womack and Womack,
The Fatback Band and Change to Peterborough.
"Whilst
I’ve expanded the genres of music I promote I suppose deep down I’m
still a ‘Soul Boy’ at heart and its really thrilling to be bringing
an artiste of Candi’s class to Peterborough.
I’m sure that the evening of the 3rd March will see a huge
turn out of the ‘Old Soul Brigade’ at The Cresset!" |
