Burghley Horse Trials wins award

Lifestyle | Article

The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials is once again the rider’s choice as ‘Best Event’ of 2008.

It is the fifth time that the British four-star, three-day event has won the award promoted by the international equestrian year book L’Annee Hippique.

Burghley Horse Trials

In 1987 L’Annee Hippique first requested riders in all three Olympic disciplines to select their favourite shows based on considerations such as stabling, ground condition and course preparation, hospitality and prize money. Burghley, which staged its first three-day event in 1961, won the inaugural award and has subsequently been voted ‘Best Event’ in 1992, 1998 and 2002. This year the event came close to being cancelled after unprecedented rain made on-site conditions and access difficult. According to the riders it is the attention to detail, course preparation, hospitality and attitude that, ‘nothing’s ever too much trouble’ which they rate so highly at Burghley.

“To win an award is always gratifying. For it to have been voted for by the riders is even better,” said Burghley Director, Elizabeth Inman. “But to receive such an accolade this year, after what became a testing four days, is extra special. For the team at Burghley this recognises their hard work and acknowledges the huge contribution they made to the event.”

British rider Nicola Wilson, fifth at the event this year with Opposition Buzz, was one on the riders who voted for Burghley.

“Burghley is a fabulous venue and we know that the course and going will always be well prepared. The facilities such as the all-weather arena are much appreciated on top of which the organisers are so accommodating and pleased to see you. It is a lovely event that we always enjoy going to,” said Nicola who first rode at Burghley ten years ago.
