Having the Cresset in it's current state as the only feasible venue for decent bands and comedians is NOT an attractive option for Peterborough... one only has to look at the decrepit, 'not updated since the 80's' state of the Showcase Cinema to see what having a monopoly over a particular leisure/arts sector in this city gives us.

agreed, but its better than having no such venue

well that just sums up the defeated nature of peterborians.... "it's sh*t, but it's the only one we've got, so it'll do".

I've travelled down to see Symptom and the Lloyd Watson Band play at the Fayrespot Cresset Bar. And both gigs and the atmosphere have been brilliant! You must be talking about, apart from the main concert hall, another part of the Cresset then?

nope, just the concert hall... though the rest of the Cresset centre also stands as a monument to dreadful identikit 70's sink estate shopping/community hubs, so yeah, if it saves money to do it all at once, tear the whole f**ker down.

I'd have liked to have seen Billy Ocean playing at the Cresset last night.

I'm not a Peterborian

I'd love to see a proper 1000 capacity gig venue, but the fact is the council won't fund it and the likelihood is there isn't the demand for it.

So in the absense of anything better, then i'd rather it stayed open

The problem is, half of you on here haven't been out of your street - other than to work and the shops - all week. The Cresset like The Key and Broadway (I believe someone set fire to that but I couldn't imagine who!) before it shut all put on tribute acts and racist comedians from the 70s.

The Met is probably one of the few venues in Peterborough that puts on acts on the rise that people want to see, but the moaning tw*ts can't be arsed to see.

Some of us do make the effort though, tonight me and my mate went to see Marina & The Diamonds at Bloomsbury Ballroom (in that London!) and in August me and the lady are off to see Othello at Tolthorpe.

If only these "bigger" yet burnt down venues closer to home could offer that kind of excitement!

steady on Si, two gigs in three months... you'll earn yourself a party animal tag if you keep that ratio up ;)  Got a point though... there's usually more decent entertainment in the local shop than there is in the entire city.... especially when Tom the Miserable Bastard pops in to moan about how loudly the paperboys drop his Daily Sport through the letterbox!

there's something seriously wrong when the only notable venues of size in this city are the concrete cresset, the barbecue broadway and a council-run theatre, especially as the city is perfectly placed as a tour stop-off for any band/artist doing a national tour. someone's missed the boat on this.
