Sad to see it close, i remember it opening and have been quite a few times, last time going to see Alan Carr.

Seems Peterborough isn't the place to be if you want to have a good night out.

Yes, it's the Cresset theatre that's closing.

I've never been myself and not really sure why as I like comedy nights, etc.  Possibly the location, but then I've visited Cambridge and London for a night out too.

It was basically like attending a performance in the large sports-hall of your local secondary school (only 25 quid dearer!)

Yes clearly the closure of a venue where comedians and bands play on a regular basis is a great thing. Peterborough obviously has so many great cultural outlets to take its place

The mind boggles

Years ago when the two moan venues for bands were the Cresset and the Wirrina I used to much prefer the Wirrina. I can remember not mattering where you were in the Wirrina, wehter you were at the back in easy access to the bar or in the front "moshing" it up, the sound was always great.

I used to find the Cresset pretty p**** poor venue. I distinctly remember seeing Gaye Bykers On Acid at the Cresset, who I was a big fan of at the time, and left halfway through, they sounded abysmal.

In my view, unless improvements have been made, they should resurrect the Wirinna as a venue and forget about the cresset.

I'm was a bit young for gigs at The Wirrina, but used to love going there for the roller discos. Never understood why it was closed down and left to rot, other than to allow the owner to rent out the car park for people who can't be arsed to use the bus

Having the Cresset in it's current state as the only feasible venue for decent bands and comedians is NOT an attractive option for Peterborough... one only has to look at the decrepit, 'not updated since the 80's' state of the Showcase Cinema to see what having a monopoly over a particular leisure/arts sector in this city gives us.
