No-one has a workable majority, so has to power-share.

That means some powercrazed dictatorship is unable to pass new laws as and when it wants to pander to big business.

Meaning MP's don't get their sneaky bungs anymore. (The ones that don't show up on expenses)

They don't like that !!

You see, Juls, they have these whips - you've heard of Madam Cyn and all that?

I'm pretty ignorant about politics myself. What's the point of being represented by somebody who's not allowed to think their own thoughts or make their own decisions, and may not be bothered to turn up to Parliament? From what I can gather, every time the Government of the day want to pass a Bill, the whips just go round and put pressure on all their MPs to vote FOR. Then the opposition whips go round and get all their MP's to vote AGAINST.

That is why in the great, free and just democracy that we live in, the Government needs a majority, ie.more than 50%, not just the most seats.

If the Government, on a rare occasion, fail to get an important Bill through, this is called a BACKBENCH REBELLION. If on the other hand, the Government does not have a majority and there is a common opportunity for all those MPs in disagreement to just vote against them at will, that is a Parliament with no firm concentration of power ie. HUNG.

A big thing they keep banging on about at the moment, is the Lib.Dems. joining up with Labour, so at least between them they can both beat the Tories. Apparently, if Parliament ends up hung, then there is a complete breakdown of society and everything turns into a hopeless shambles!

Our votes are a waste of time obviously - but they're the only ones we've got, so we just have to do what we can. Remember Emily Davidson and the King's horses.

You know a damn site more than me Els, wow that was a really interesting reply. Lots to look into ...

I have to say that a hung parliament resorting in them having to talk and agree on things as a whole, sounds pretty good.

Juls, you're on the button.

Even a hung perspective will have to focus on haggling for the better.

Though, with the way things are turning, I think we can really push this one through as never before in political history.

Go for it!
