Is it time there was an outright ban on smoking?

A start was made by banning smoking in public places, I think that within the next 50 years tobacco will be a thing of the past.

Quite simply, no. People should be able to do whatever they
want with their own bodies.

The smoking ban in private premises remains disgustingly
draconian and fundamentally illogical (smokers cannot set
up venues for smoking) and will inevitably be repealed at
some point in the future.

Why is it illogical? Some people object to the smell of smoke.

I can't see an outright ban happening. I think the public places is fair enough as there people have a choice and that's what we're supposed to have - a choice!

And Petemac - people object to all kinds of things, what ya gonna do, ban it all! Come on!!

I think some of you don't know where I'm coming from, as a former 60 a day man I don't care if people smoke or not, the ban certainly killed the pub trade that's for sure. I just think, and it's my own personal view, that tobacco will be a thing of the past in the future.

I still like the smell of cigarettes at times, and there's nothing as aromatic as pipe tobacco but pipe smoking is pretty much history now.

The ban was imposed to "protect" non-smokers, yet venues
opened explicitly for smoking where no non-smokers are ever
present aren't allowed.

Pointless discussion.

Poster of another forum (Norway I believe) siad that pub landlords have opened up another room that's not part of the pub

ie: you can't buy beer in there but you can carry it in from the pub as a way of getting round the smoking ban (it's classed as his house and therefore exempt from the rules)
