Just read about the PFI scans Colgrin - shocking!!! I think half the problem is the majority of people don't really pay attention to what is going on.

Truly disgusted by what I have read.

I wouldn't blame the public!

I mean, when was the last time any mention of this disgusting financial scam
appeared on the front page of any newspaper?

This subject just is not allowed, or so it appears, to be mentioned in public.

Once you make the effort in finding out for yourself, you realise it is no
wonder this is a taboo subject.

Juls77, have a look at this site...www.votematch.org.uk.There's a simple
agree/disagree with a series of statements and a smattering of 'highlight
which issue most concerns you'.  It then gives you the party or parties
which are most aligned with your thinking and concerns at the end.It was
pretty accurate for me. It might give you a pointer if anything.

I wouldn't take any of these sites as more than a bit of fun. The big
problem is that they present you with statemets or questions for you to
decide upon that have no context. The other big problem is that this all
based upon party literature and manifestos and we all know how vacuous
and full of crap they are.

I tried votematch and my result was BNP! What the Feck??? I was quite
insulted!

I used http://voteforpolicies.org.uk and got the Lib Dems.... yeah right.

I used another site, I can't remember witch, with the result I was way to
the left of the Dalia Lama, whatever that means!

- The site was politicalcompass.org

I realise as I write this how naive I'm going to sound, but how come no paper will pick it up (the story) and run with it, I mean aren't journalists supposed to be truth tellers.

Are we really that controlled that not even any newspaper or tv news bulletin will bring it up or is it mentioned but just that mentioned and downplayed? truly shocking.

That is, in fact, a very good question. Why are certain stories ignored despite them being so important?

I don’t think it is about control at all. I think it is more to do with the media pleasing it’s masters.

Noam Chomsky has a very good explanation in what he calls the “Five Filters”. He writes extensively about this, just google “Chomsky five filters”.

Essentially he says all, in particular what would be deemed controversial, news has to pass a series of filters before we get to read about it, these being brought down to the five he mentions.

I think however the most important issue is that ownership of the media has a pretty good detrimental influence on what passes. Take a look at this:

http://la.indymedia.org/news/2003/04/47530.php

You think CBS would want to pass on bad news about General Electric?

You think Rupert Murdoch would be happy to see bad news about his empire plastered on the front page of the Times?

So with the companies involved in PFI contracts. This isn’t hushed up or “controlled”, it just get’s ignored because if you make a big deal about is you are going to make people upset, cancelling lucrative advertising contracts, ministers on the phone to your bosses, etc etc.

This all sounds very conspiracy, but it stands to reason when you think about it. You employ someone to run one of your companies you are not going to be happy about employing someone who would take every opportunity to sl*g you off.

Likewise, when you start at a new job, you want to fit in. You please your bosses and you get promoted, until you are in a position where you are taking on and promoting people who conform to your ideals so you continue to please your bosses. Very few people become super successful within organisations by being mavericks. These usually go of on their own.

I admit this sounds simplistic and I suspect it is, but I think essentially this sums it up.
