i wanted to like the hurt locker. following the rave reviews, director kathryn bigelow's iraq war movie should've blown me away along with the unfortunate young squad she follows around the body strewn baghdad streets defusing improvised bombs. the edgy handheld camerawork, so effective in the bourne trilogy, works to such brilliant effect in the war zone, we believe we are watching newsreel from an embedded news cameraman. it's nerve shredding suspense. the performances from the largely unknown cast and the dialogue are realistic and totally believeable. unfortunately, this snapshot into the everyday lives of extraordinary american soldiers follows a linear narrative and left me waiting for a story (y'know; beginning, middle, end etc) that never materialized. rent the nat/geo dvd instead.

saw this movie about 200 times when i found myself out of work last summer. gave it 5 stars for misguided rhetoric and 1 star for costume design.

I saw this movie once, and I thought it was OK.

I saw it once and probably not likely to see it again.

It gave an interesting insight into the situation and life in a war zone, but it didn't really happen for me.

Something like Band of Brothers on the other hand has a story to tell and told it well. I was expecting something similar and was very disappointed.
