Sunday March 22nd @ The Glass Onion

A night for the coming of spring in which we celebrate the magical bringing to life of inanimate objects through the marvellous process of stop motion animation!

11 pm
This ain't no chick flick!
Aardman animation made this triumphant leap from TV specials to the silver screen nearly 10 years ago now and it was heralded as one of the best British films of its time. The genius imaginations behind Wallace and Gromit plus an all star cast including Mel Gibson make this perfect viewing.
(2000 ~ dir.Peter Lord & Nick Park ~ rated U ~ 81mins)

9.45 pm
Czech master director Jan Svankmajer is hailed as one of the greatest animators of all time and it isn't very hard to see why.
This twisted and dark adaptation of ALICE IN WONDERLAND is probably his best known film and its mixture of live action and macabre animation of everything from old socks to animal skeletons is utterly mesmerizing.
(1988 ~ dir.Jan Svankmajer ~rated PG~ 81 mins)

9.10 pm
Winner of Best Animated Short Film at the Oscars last year, this half hour picture is a beautiful and exquisitely animated piece that will captivate you whatever your age.
(2007 ~ dir.Suzie Templeton ~ rated U ~ 32mins)

8 pm
Based on Kenneth Graham's classic children book, this film was later adapted into an award winning TV show that ran for several years furthering the adventures of Toad, Ratty, Moley and Badger. Many film and TV adaptations of Wind in the Willows exist but this is by far the greatest.
(1983 ~ dir.Mark Hall ~ rated U ~ 74 mins)

7 pm
Although most believe Snow White to be the first feature length animated film of all time, that's history through the Disney-tinted specs, because Lotte Reiniger's 1926 film 'Die Abenteuer des Prinzen Achmed' got there first (there are believed to be even earlier animated films, but sadly they are lost).
It's style is reminiscent of shadow puppetry but the puppets were in fact animated frame by frame. Based on the famous stories of 'Arabian Nights'
(1926 ~ dir.Lotte Reiniger ~ rated PG ~ 65mins)

5.30 pm
They need no introduction, the original and best. No christmas Day would be complete without their antics and adventures.
~ A Grand Day Out (1989)
~ The Wroing Trousers (1993)
~ A Close Shave (1995)
(Aardman Animation ~ Rated U ~ 96 mins total)

Plus Short films!
Tim Burton's wonky short film "VINCENT", Svankmajer's totally odd "DARKNESS LIGHT DARKNESS" and Bjork's award winning music video "WANDERLUST" by Ecyclopedia Pictura.

PLUS ~ Keep your eyes peeld for even more stop motion magic in the future...
