Sterling moves to Peterborough

Sterling, a Nottingham based training provider, is expanding its business into the Peterborough and Cambridge region.

The company's representative in this area is Chris Cordery, who has twenty years experience as a professional trainer. Chris himself specialises in Leadership and Team development and Investors In People, whilst his colleagues at Sterling offer training in a broad range of subjects including Management and Supervisory skills, Health and Safety and Sales and Marketing.

Sterling offers two services:

Advice

In today's competitive market place it is often the superior knowledge, skills and attitudes of staff that make the difference between business success and failure. Developing these does not happen by accident and specific learning activities targeted at business needs can put one business ahead of its competitors. "At Sterling," Chris says, "we do not assume that staff who have training needs necessarily need to go away on expensive courses. Research shows that the workplace itself provides excellent opportunities for learning and we believe that this should be utilised as much as possible." To be effective work-based training requires setting up and Sterling can provide the necessary advice.

Sterling also helps client companies to set up efficient induction programmes to get new recruits fully operational as quickly as possible. It assists organisations in planning training and development so that they are targeted precisely on business needs. In this connection Sterling also provides advice for companies that are considering introducing Investors In People. Convincing staff (and sometimes senior executives too) that IIP is worthwhile can be challenging and strategies for efficient implementation are not always obvious.

Training Delivery

When specific training is needed Sterling can provide it and the company's philosophy is that learning should be as practical and enjoyable as possible. "At Sterling we believe that people learn best through practical experience and by having fun", Chris says. "There is also a good business reason for learning in this way. New skills and knowledge acquired by practical application are transferred to the workplace much more readily than learning that is solely theoretical".

Instead of simply offering standard courses, Sterling prefers to work with companies to ensure that whatever training is provided is tailored to meet specific business needs. "We prefer to be flexible in this way because it enables client companies to train their people in ways that suit them and are cost-effective", Chris claims.

What makes Sterling different? Sterling realises that there are a large number of similar organisations but Chris believes that his company is different. "At Sterling

  • No client or piece of work is too small or too large (we will train one person or large numbers)

  • We are fast and flexible - we can react swiftly to client needs and provide training in a variety of ways (coaching, seminars, workshops for small groups and sustained development programmes)

  • We have Investors In People recognition - clients receive training from Sterling trainers who are themselves extremely well trained

  • We work to ISO 9001:2000 - clients can be assured of a Quality service

  • We offer accredited training if clients want it
    Institute of Leadership and Management
    Chartered Management Institute
Institute of Sales and Marketing Management
Institution of Occupational Safety and Health

  • Our training is extremely practical and fun - we keep theory to a minimum and our training sessions are packed with practical tasks"
