Pledge to recruit more businesses

In a bid to tackle crime in the city Cambridgeshire Police have made a pledge to recruit more businesses in a new scheme.

Business Against Crime (BAC) currently has 150 companies involved around the county - but officers want more interest from Peterborough to help fight crime.

Debbie Weston, community safety advisor for Cambridgeshire Police, said: "We're hoping lots of businesses will get on board with the scheme and help us to help them in tackling crime.

"It's an excellent opportunity for us all to work in partnership and empowers companies to take a united stand against crime.

"Business Against Crime is a crime reduction initiative specifically designed to meet the needs of the business community. It provides a structure for businesses to work together with the common objective of fighting crime.

"Companies which have signed up to the scheme in other parts of the county have found they've got to know their neighbours, which in many cases has led to shared safety resources."

A recent survey of the British Chamber of Commerce revealed the cost of business crime nationally is almost 19 billion a year.

Everyone who signs up is provided with a Business Watch folder.
