Switched on to Savings!

Businesses are always being urged to become leaner and more profitable, but are not always told how. That's now all changing with businesses in the Peterborough area are being offered the chance to attend a free seminar and find out more about grants and free energy efficiency services available to them from the Energy Saving Trust and the Energy Efficiency Best Practice Programme.

Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) is organising the seminar on Wednesday 5th December and businesses will be able to learn more about grants for energy efficient lighting and controls, converting their fleet cars and other vehicles to low-emission fuels, the Enhanced Capital Allowance Scheme and a free energy auditing service for those with energy bills in excess of 10,000. The workshop is part of a series of successful and well-attended environmental management events PECT has organised for local businesses.

The seminar is being hosted by Norwich & Peterborough Building Society who recently received a Green Apple Award for good environmental practice at a prestigious ceremony held in London. Kevin Orme, Head of Facilities, said, "We tackled energy issues early on in our environmental management programme and we have estimated savings of 2,500 a year. We are pleased to be hosting this event that will give smaller companies the chance to learn about the financial support available to help them tackle energy efficiency". Kevin will be relating Norwich & Peterborough's experience of improving energy efficiency and how membership of the PECT Business and Environment Scheme has helped reduce energy bills and improve their environmental performance.

Antony Gough, Co-ordinator of the PECT Business and Environment Management Scheme, will be on hand to talk to any businesses interested in learning more about PECT's unique management system that helps firms tackle water, energy and waste issues. He explained " Many businesses are keen to reduce their environmental impact, but find it hard getting started. For others the anticipated costs and time investment involved make it seem an impractical proposition. This event will bring together three organisations who collectively can make tackling energy efficiency a simple, low-cost and in the longer term, profitable exercise"

Each attendee at the workshop will receive a delegate pack containing free literature and advice on minimising energy use and applying for grants. For those companies with larger energy bills there will also be an opportunity to sign up for a free energy auditing service called Action Energy.

Any business interested in attending this free event should contact Antony on 01733 760882.
