Festival gains business support

Peterborough City Council is sending a message of thanks to the local, regional and national business community for their support in putting together what will be an exciting and memorable Peterborough Festival 2001.

This years festival is the third of its type in the city. Over the last few years it has grown from 9 days attracting over 25,000, to last year when over 16 days it attracted over 55,000. The festival this year is aiming to attract over 75,000 over the 16 day period with an even wider range of events, offering something for everyone.

Peter Newman, Principal Cultural Services Officer for the city council said, “The Peterborough Festival is growing in recognition, not only in the region but across the country, thanks to the support of the local, regional and national business community. The festival will once again take place over 16 days with a wide range of events including international artists in a number of venues across the city. The Festival is already gaining international attention this year, highlighting Peterborough is the place to be in the Eastern Region to celebrate diversity.”

The Peterborough Festival brings together a range of businesses to stage a number of exciting events. English Partnerships have supported the Peterborough Festival for the last two years and this year is again a principal sponsor. English Partnerships have been one of the main players in the promotion of the city to attract visitors and business for many years.

Daniel Myers, Portfolio Business Development Manager for English Partnerships said, “English Partnerships is a substantial supporter of a wide range of activities that promote Peterborough as a great place to live and work. We have been the principal sponsor of the Peterborough Festival from its origins in 1999 with other partners - such as Peterborough City Council and Greater Peterborough Investment Agency - English Partnerships is fully committed to initiatives that will improve the area’s prosperity and quality of life.”

Over the last 2 years the festival has maintained the support of a number of key businesses in the city including; Evening Telegraph, Budget Insurance, Persimmon Homes, Coca Cola Enterprises, Lite FM, Queensgate Shopping Centre, Hereward FM and Connaught Media. This year the festival has attracted additional support from GNER, Asahi Beer, Japan 2001, The Japan Foundation and the Sasakawa Foundation.
