Tony brings the national and international profile befitting the
chairman's role. Closer to home, he was responsible for establishing
Halcrow's Peterborough office which now employs more than 60 people
and is a key part of Peterborough's 'environment cluster' of
companies.
Tony Allum said: "Peterborough is a
city with huge potential. I am delighted to have the opportunity to
play a part in developing the economic and physical potential of the
city. I look forward to working with our partners at the city
council, EEDA, English Partnerships and the Department of
Communities and Local Government to raise Peterborough's profile at
the local, regional and national levels.
"Opportunity Peterborough has a key
role in securing and delivering investment and growth that will
benefit the whole city. As chairman, I aim to ensure that we meet
the expectations of our partners and the community."
Matthew Bullock, chief executive of
Norwich and Peterborough Building Society and the director of
Opportunity Peterborough heading the board committee responsible for
the search for a new chairman, said: "Tony's vast experience of
large and complex construction projects, coupled with his
considerable business skills, will make a major contribution not
just to Opportunity Peterborough but to the city as a whole. We are
enormously fortunate to have been able to attract him to this post.
"As the man responsible for setting
up Halcrow's Peterborough office, he recognised that the city would
be an ideal place to develop a business with strong roots in the
environment sector."
Jody Tableporter, chief executive of
Opportunity Peterborough, added: "I am looking forward to working
with Tony as we move from planning for future growth and
regeneration to delivering physical and economic developments.
Taking the role of chair demonstrates his continued support for
Peterborough and I am sure he will be one of the city's strongest
advocates."
Councillor John Peach, leader of
Peterborough City Council, said: "I welcome Tony to Opportunity
Peterborough and look forward to driving through the exciting plans
we have for the city with him. I am particularly pleased that Tony
brings with him a knowledge of the city and I am certain that his
drive and enthusiasm will lead to speedy results."
