Jason Hill, 22, joins a team of 18 at the Peterborough fire safety
company in Yaxley.
Newflame began trading in 1975 and
moved to its current location in 2006. Jason began his career at the
age of 17 as a fire safety technician. In his own time, he has been
working hard to complete a two year course to become fully qualified
as an electrician. He completed his 17th Edition City and Guilds
qualification in May 2009, which means he is fully up to date with
his understanding of the Institute of Electrical Engineers’ wiring
regulations.
A native of Peterborough, Jason
lives in Dogsthorpe and says, “With my qualification complete, I am
enjoying everything about my role with Newflame. I get out and about
to see and work with customers on a daily basis. We are really
developing our own specialism in fire alarm maintenance, service and
repair. I am also using my skills in the second part of my role at
Newflame, maintaining and repairing emergency lighting systems.”
Newflame truly is a family firm and
the latest recruit to take on an apprenticeship position is the
owners’ middle son, Peter Best.
At 17, Peter is working with Jason
and is learning a lot from him. Peter is at college studying
electrical installation on a day release and working full time for
the firm. Peter says, “It’s fun working alongside Jason, which is a
healthy way to learn new skills from him. I like working with such a
great team, both on the road and back at base.“ Steve and June
Best’s eldest son Stephen (now 20) joined the firm in 2007 and
successfully passed his BAFE Registered Technicians’ exam the
following year.
