Old folk move into the digital age

Business | Press | News

Elderly people living at the Snowhills sheltered housing scheme in Yaxley are pioneering the move to digital television as the development becomes the first old folk’s residence in the Peterborough area to be provided with the technology.

The scheme will deliver digital signals and scores of television channels plus Internet access to each of the 41 properties, which are owned by Peterborough-based Minster General Housing Association.

Snowhills, Yaxley

“Instead of each property having its own television aerial or satellite dish, they will all be connected to a single dish and FM aerial,” said Minster director of housing services Steve Wilson. “It will improve residents’ television reception and provide an enlarged choice of channels while eliminating all the individual aerials and dishes.”

Residents will be able to continue using their existing televisions until the government decides to terminate analogue signals, said Trevor Baker, proprietor of Peterborough-based TA Baker, which is handling the Snowhills contract. Minster’s sheltered housing scheme at Hartwell Court, Westwood, Peterborough, is expected to be next in line for the digital revolution.
