Jon, who trained in London and worked in Cambridge before opening
the Status salon in Yaxley, near Peterborough, five years ago, said:
“You just can’t put into words what this competition is about. It’s
just the biggest in the whole of Europe – the crème de la crème.
“To get
through the grand final would be beyond my wildest dreams. Winning
the competition would basically make you a celebrity hairdresser in
your own right.”
Judges
including Trevor Sorbie and Charles Worthington were impressed with
Jon’s dramatic punk-gothic creation and sent him through to the
Eastern region final in Cambridge on March 23. For the second time
in two years, he will battle 24 other stylists from around the
region for a coveted place in the grand final at Earls Court.
He said:
“We could have entered for years and not got through so to make it
to the regional finals twice in two years is a fantastic
achievement. Last year we were told that we were the first salon
from Cambridgeshire to get through in 20 years and they couldn’t
remember a small village hairdressers ever going through.
“I really
thought we could do it this year because our entry was better than
last year but I’m gutted we’ve lost the model.” On the night, Jon
has just 30 minutes to recreate the look he submitted in his entry
for judging by some of the most successful names in British
hairdressing, who will be looking for “total glamour, total
sophistication and total inspiration”.
Trevor
Sorbie, one of the judges who selected the regional finalists, said:
“I’m looking for an image that jumps out and makes me stop in my
tracks.”
If you
think you have what it takes to help Jon realise his dream and be
his model on the big night, contact him at the salon on 01733 243696
or email a photo to

Models
need to be over 5ft 8ins with shoulder-length hair or longer. They
must be over 16 and be open-minded about what is done to their hair.
Catwalk experience would be an advantage.
Jon said:
“I suppose we are slightly unusual hairdressers and tend to be punky
rather than glam. Our clients come from Cambridge, Oundle and
Stamford as well as Peterborough. I’ve even got customers from
Ireland who fly over to get their hair done!”
