Law team appoints new director

Business | Press | News

The Corporate and Commercial team at Greenwoods Solicitors LLP is pleased to announce the appointment of new Associate Director, Martin Smith.

Martin joins a team considered by Chambers UK - a guide to the UK legal profession - to be 'a "deft and incisively commercial" practice that has attracted a solid stable of well-known clients'.

Martin, who will be focusing on corporate transactions, was previously a partner at a well known city firm and before that was head of company and commercial law at a large East Midlands practice.

Martin has a wealth of experience advising on high profile transactions, for example, the tax structuring of a multinational joint venture; a number of unlisted acquisitions and disposals for corporates, owner managers and EIS investors; a court-approved capital reduction; and a contested takeover between two fully listed companies with an associated 70m rights issue.

At the beginning of his career Martin worked as a banker on corporate finance transactions and attended the London Business School corporate finance programme. As a result he brings real financial understanding to the corporate lawyer role.

Martin has been featured as a 'leading Individual' in both the 'Legal 500' and 'Legal Experts', a directory of business experts for corporate finance.

David Woods, Greenwoods' Head of Corporate and Commercial Law, is delighted to welcome Martin to the team. "As a result of strong and interesting mergers and acquisitions activity over the last twelve months we were keen to expand our department. Martin's skills and experience complement the rest of the team well and I know he will add value both to existing and new clients."

The strong activity seen by the Greenwoods' team in 2005 is continuing into 2006 with a good number of deals proceeding (indeed some already completed) and more in the pipeline for the forthcoming months. As a result the team is going from strength to strength. In addition to Martin's appointment a further solicitor is expected to join the team in the next couple of months.

As David Woods says, "We work very hard to help our clients achieve their objectives." The team's expansion suggests that clients really do appreciate the great service they deliver.
