Four of Peterborough's top law
firms offering commercial services have suspended normal professional rivalries
to create a new group which will promote the city's reputation for high quality
The Greater Peterborough Law
Group will be inaugurated on 11 April with the objective of demonstrating that
local legal practices can match the professional expertise of lawyers in London
and other big cities at much more cost-effective rates.
The initiative was suggested by
Gloria Milne, chief executive of Greater Peterborough Investment Agency, in
support of the agency's campaign to attract inward investment and relocations.
Mrs Milne said: "When
companies consider relocation options they need to be satisfied that
Peterborough can provide a diverse range of facilities and services. In addition
to obvious things such as suitable properties and development land, skilled
workers and good transport connections, they are looking for a high quality

companies to make their more as seamless and uncomplicated as possible. So we
need to assure them that Peterborough can offer all the professional expertise
they will need, including the highest quality legal services.

The four founding members of the
Greater Peterborough Law Group are Hunt & Coombs, Greenwoods, Hegarty &
Co and Buckle Mellows, who together have a total of more than 70 lawyers
offering corporate and commercial legal services.
Already the group has developed
its own website and future initiatives will include a comprehensive awareness
programme which will promote Peterborough's legal expertise still further. The
message will be presented at a London seminar later in the year.
