Peterborough's first Secretarial Show proves a success

Business | Press | News

The first show of its kind in Peterborough proved to be a two-day success when the Flex-Able Secretarial and Office Services Show took place at The Bull Hotel.

Sponsored by the city's leading supplier of office products, Walters Office World, the Show was visited by PAs and secretaries from Peterborough and the region.

Throughout the event, companies such as John Lewis, Delia Smith's Canary Catering, Best Western Hotels, Coca-Cola, Marriot Hotels, Business Travel World and many others companies promoted their products and services to a targeted market.

Seminars were held by Anne Corder, People Potential and Recruiting People as well as psychometric testing with Peterborough company, HRg.

Celine Pinter, MD of Recruiting People said, "We certainly enjoyed the opportunity to meet with clients and our two seminars gave us the chance to share our expertise with new people. We have received excellent feedback from everyone who attended, so much so we now intend to push out a series of similar seminars."

The event was visited by Mayoress Kathie Stewart and BBC's Look East presenter, Susie Fowler Watt.

"The Show went extremely well with PAs and Secretaries finding the networking opportunities and seminars beneficial," says Organiser, Sarah Vanbergen, Director of Flex-Able Travel. "They found money-saving products and a choice of office services to add to their suppliers lists. Exhibitors found the quality of visitors who were their target market and who held purchasing responsibility.

Discussions are already under way for the next FlexAble SOS Show!"

Keen judging took place to find the PA of the Year. The three finalists were Kerry Gordon of Ecolochem International Inc, Peterborough; Paula Loveday-Smith of Synaptics (UK) Ltd and Ruth Leyshon of South Cambridgeshire District Council.

Although closely contested, Ruth Leyshon was announced the winner at the PA of the Year Awards, held last Wednesday evening at The Bull Hotel.

At the Awards ceremony, Susie Fowler Watt gave a fascinating insight into the world of BBC Look East and John Lewis staged a highly professional fashion show profiling the latest autumn/winter collection. "This was a great opportunity for John Lewis to be involved in a new and exciting venture," said Amanda Nicol, Department Manager for Ladies Fashions. "We have some new designer names in our autumn/winter collection, which was well received. We all thoroughly enjoyed staging the fashion show."
