£4 million investment boost for Peterborough businesses

Business | Press | News

The UK’s leading provider of flexible business space for small and growing enterprises, Evans Easyspace, is to develop its first centre in East Anglia, at Bakewell Road, Peterborough.

More than £4m is to be invested in the 4.5 acre sites, purchased from English Partnerships, which will eventually provide 21 offices and 25 workshops when the project is completed next year.

“This is an extremely exciting project for us as it is the first project developed with the assistance of English Partnerships,” said Evans Easyspace MD Tom Stokes. “We’ll be providing much needed space for the small business sector, which needs the intensively managed, easy-in, easy-out terms we offer throughout the UK.

“Evans Easyspace is a proactive company with plans for rapid growth throughout the UK. We are unique in this sector, giving small and growing businesses the chance to access high quality offices and workshops at competitive rates and with a rolling two-month licence deal, so our clients have tremendous flexibility and no long term commitment. We’ve found this is an irresistible offer for most small businesses.”

Evans Easyspace operates 28 business centres around the UK and, thanks to a £100 million funding package with Kodak Pension Plan, is set to triple in size over the next five years. The company continues to expand by a mix of new build projects, refurbishment and purchase of existing centres throughout the Midlands and North. Easyspace centres are all strategically located to offer businesses access to excellent road and rail links while being near centres of population.

Phase 1 of the Peterborough project will total 21,075 sq ft in two blocks, providing 10 offices and 12 workshops. Construction begins in February, with completion scheduled for September. Phase 2, totalling 28,850 sq ft, is also over two blocks and will provide 11 offices and 13 workshops. Construction will begin immediately after completion of Phase 1. Local company Bernard Shaw will be carrying out the work.

“Based on our experiences around the UK, we will expect around 40 businesses to locate in the new centre, providing around 155 jobs and making a significant contribution to the local economy,” said Tom Stokes.

Richard Harrington, area director at English Partnerships, said: "The development will provide essential facilities to help new and small businesses grow and become established in the city.

"English Partnerships is committed to helping Peterborough expand and develop and is pleased to have worked with Evans Easyspace on such a high quality speculative development."

Evans Easyspace offers a national network of Evans Business Centres. Details of Evans Easyspace, its centres and service are on the web at www.evanseasyspace.com or information is available on Freephone 0800 039 3900.
