Best Land Deal Ever - 20 Acres for 1

Councillor Bob Burke (left) and landscapes and recreation manager Simon Bothwell (right) present Roger Kendall from English Partnerships with 1 to symbolise the sale of 20 acres of Bluebell community land.

Twenty acres for just 1! In what is probably the best land deal in Peterborough's history, English Partnerships has transferred a 20-acre prime site to the city council for just 1.

The deal will ensure that the land, immediately south of the main A47 Soke Parkway and adjacent to the Bluebell housing estate, will continue to be used as community open space for the benefit of local residents.

To symbolise the deal, English Partnerships' Peterborough manager Roger Kendall was presented with 1 by Peterborough City Council's community services committee chairman Councillor Bob Burke and landscapes and recreation manager Simon Bothwell.

This weekend, (Sunday 11 June) as part of Peterborough's Environment Week activities, a 'garden army' of residents and other helpers plan to create a new community garden based on designs produced by local school children.

"This deal secures an important piece of open space for the benefit of local residents," said Councillor Burke.

Mr Kendall added: "The Bluebell land has a long history as farmland and open space and was acquired by Peterborough Development Corporation 30 years ago for the construction of Soke Parkway during the New Town expansion programme.
