To celebrate the announcement of Marshall Motor Group as the new title sponsor for the Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival for 2004, staff representing the eight Marshall franchises in Peterborough recently took time out of their busy schedules to practice their dragon boat paddling technique. Wrapped up warm in the brightly painted Chinese dragon boat with its ornately carved dragon's head and traditional drum, they will be hoping for better weather when the real action starts in May!

The Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival has become the biggest corporate and community team event in Peterborough. Now in its sixth year, it takes place on Sunday 9th May on the River Nene opposite the Key Theatre with more than 50 crews expected to battle it out over the 250m race course watched by several thousand spectators.

Exciting, colourful and great fun, no previous experience is required to take part in the Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival, just plenty of team spirit! The ornate 40' Chinese dragon boats and all racing equipment are provided and each crew (of between 12 and 17 people) is guaranteed a minimum of three races.

Ivan Cooper, Regional Director of Marshall, commented "We decided to sponsor the Festival due to the success and popularity of the previous events. The group are very excited about this year's event and will also be entering several teams. We are pleased to have now had the opportunity to practice but hope we will move a bit faster on the day!"

The Marshall Motor Group is the largest founding division of the Marshall Group with 42 showrooms representing 16 different manufacturers. The Marshall Motor Group has operations throughout East Anglia, as well as Leicester and Reading and is widely recognised as a leader in the development of large multi-franchise sites including the Marshall Car Centre in Cambridge. The Group which has been operating in Peterborough, for well over fifty years now has nine franchises; Toyota, Vauxhall, Peugeot, MG Rover, Chrysler Jeep, Jaguar, Honda, Land Rover and more recently Volvo.

Carol Lester, Director of Festival organisers, Gable Events, said "We are delighted to welcome Marshall Motor Group as the new title sponsor of the Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival and we look forward to working with them to ensure this year's event is even bigger and better than ever. The Festival continues to grow in popularity every year so we recommend companies get their entries in early to guarantee a place".

With plenty of bankside activities, live music and entertainment, the Festival offers a great day out for the teams, their families and supporters. It is also a superb way to raise money for good causes with many local charities set to benefit from cash raised through sponsorship by the participating crews.
