Peterborough Chamber of Commerce has
set up a new group - the Peterborough Construction Network - to help
local construction companies build business relationships.
Opportunity Peterborough, the
organisation responsible for leading the future development of the
city, sponsored the group's first meeting. It also provided the main
speaker at the launch event - its chief executive, Jody Tableporter.
She said: "I am honoured to be the
first speaker at the first meeting of this new group. The group can
play an important role by providing an opportunity for everyone in
this industry to get together.
"Peterborough is moving from having
a reactive stance to having a strategic view of its future
development. We are thinking about how the city should be positioned
and the way we should be developing.
"Opportunity Peterborough is leading
a £1 billion transformation of the city, with massive investment in
new building and construction projects.
"We think it is important to get our
local construction companies involved at an early stage. This is why
I am delighted to have this opportunity to talk about our plans for
the future development of Peterborough. The more that local
companies know about what is happening, the better position they
will be in to win contracts when we move into the design and
construction phases."
Phil Elmer, chairman of the
Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce Construction Sector, said: "The
aim of the Peterborough Construction Network is to bring together
all professions associated with the development and construction
industries in the county and region.
"This forum allows these businesses
to meet on an informal basis to discuss issues related to their
industry."
